MOUSE TRAPS! OUCH!

Give us your view of the activity today. Let us know how trust had anything to do with this activity today? How did your perception change about the activity, your group and yourself, from the beggining of the period until the end? Finally what does this have do with climbing and working with others?

  1. This activity was really odd, and kinda scary. In a wierd way it did help with trust in our groups. I was really proud when my group finished first! The last group activity we did with the marbles we were last to fisish. So this activity showed we are working together better and getting to be a closer team!

  2. I did this activity in gym last year but i was scared today. I didnt have a problem when my eyes were open but i did with my eyes closed. It connects to climbing through trust and teamwork and was a really fun and different type of activity.

  3. I enjoyed this activity today. i was nervous when i first waslked in and heard we were doin an activity with mouse traps. I knew once we got started you would have to trust your group members which is where the climbing factor come in. I think my group worked very well today with communication and trusting, which has improved a lot.

  4. I really liked the mouse trap activity because of how it changed our perception by the end. We were more confident but also still cautious and smart about it. From the beginning to the end I feel that our group became closer and I feel more trusting of everyone. We worked really well as a team so that no one would get hurt. Trust is necessary in climbing and putting your self in a better mind set is also necesarry and that's what this activity achieved.

  5. I discovered that I have a horrible temper when things don't go my way. And I don't have much patience. But it's all good when I finally figured out how to set that mouse trap. :D
But to answer the questions... it took trust to blindly slam my hand down on the mousetrap; I had to trust my partner to guide me right over it. The activity was harder than I originally thought it would be because setting the traps was near impossible for me. But I also discovered that my team is very flexible and works very well with 'divide and conquer'. Like climbing, this activity took trust and teamwork.

  6. I don't see this activity as a trust one. I see it as patience and a little bit of communication. I think this relates to climbing by using teamwork and communicating.

  7. I thought this activity was really easy for me. You have to trust yourself to know that you wont get hurt with the traps. This is like climbing because you have to put faith in yourslef to know that you will make it to the top and make it safely. You also have to trust your partner to tell help you when you had your eyes closed. This is like trusting your groups to ctach you if you fall.

  9. I think the eyes closed part relates to trust and climbing the most. It's kind of like when you can't see your feet on the wall so you need to trust your group to direct you to the necessary rocks.

  10. It was interesting and kind of hurt
trying to set up the mouse trap and it was
fun. It was kind of like the marble activity we did last week. So we had to work together. The closing the eye was a bit scary but it good
helped to learn to trust. So far everything is good

  11. This activity was kinda weird haha but it was fun. I realized that i trust people in our class more than i thought i did. Doing the activity with our eyes closed scared me at first but i just pushed myself to do it and it wasn't bad at all. My group did a really good job working together but i had confidence in them the whole time :) This activity tied into climbing because there was a level of trust that had to be met in order to succeed just like climbing. Without the trust, we wouldn't of gotten anywhere.

  12. the activity was pretty scary. it was funny to watch everyone, but i can't trust my reaction time with things like that. we had to trust that our partners would give us good directions with our eyes closed just like how we have to trust our belayers when we climb.

  13. at first i thought this was going to be scary. when i tested it out on my hand it hurt a lott so i wasnt looking forward to the next challenges but i found they were easier than i thought. it was even easy to trust my partner. i just figured ive gotten hurt from this before so what more could happen?
it has to do with climbing because you have to completely trust that your group is going to be there for you if anything happens. and together you'll work as a team to do what needs to be done.

  14. i had to trust connor when i closed my eyes and he directed me to put my hand on the mouse trap. at first it was nerve-wracking and i wanted to open my eyes. even though i was nervous, i trusted him not to get me hurt. i slightly didnt trust him because i ouldnt see what was happening. when i watched my other teammates doing it, i thought that i had nothing to be afraid of because they had no motive to hurt me or anyone. from this activity, i learned that my i can trust my teammates to not let me hit the ground when i fall (but thats only if i dont piss them off! jk~)

  15. We really had to trust each other so insure that nobody was going to get hurt by the mouse traps. At first I think all of us were pretty scared... (those things hurt!) but as the hour went by, we learned that the mouse traps won't hurt us as long as everyone knew what he/she was doing. This reflected the climbing activity since climbing is a scary thing too, just like the mouse traps. We also need to trust each other that none of us will get hurt. I think this was a great way to emphasize the level of danger we are put in while climbing, but that can be easily prevented just by a simple term called trust.

  16. It was very interesting setting all these traps and play with them. It was a little bit scary, but when you tried you realize that things are not as bad as they appear and that trusting yourself and your team members realy makes a difference and makes it easier to do.

  17. This activity was a great way to see just how much perception closes us off from trying different things. In the beginning I was kind of nervous at touching the mouse traps, but by the end I realized that they didn't hurt at all. Also we had to trust each other by trying to touch the mouse trap with our eyes closed.

  18. the activity was really scary at first cause i thought that it was going to snap at my hand when i immedietly put it down. i think we had to trust ourselves first and then our partners when they directed us towards the trap. i think this has to do with climbing because even though its scary and intimidating we have to trust eachother and ourselves.

  19. I think im lucky to just have a great group dynamic and it's easy to try new things and trust each of them. It may be a good or bad thing that i tottally trust my group because im willing to try anything as long as they're there to to enjoy it with me! I was fearless of the mouse trap and i tried to encourage some of the other group memberes because it's one of those things u just have to do and trust that nothing will go wrong. Just like climbing you have to trust ur group and trust urself that everything will go alright because throughout ur life ur gonna have to take risks and if u mentally prepare urself now through this class it might help u for ur future when u have more serious decisions to make and people to trust.

  20. with this activity, i was scared that the mousetrap would snap on my hand. i learned to trust the others in my group though, especially when we had to do it with our eyes closed. this activity is similar to climbing in that we sometimes have to rely on others and also in that we have to make sure that everything is perfect, with the ropes and equipment, or someone could get hurt if they are careless.

  21. i wasn't there for the activity, but from what i heard it sounds like it connected trust and teamwork skills that are necessary for climbing, but it was more intensified.

  22. I thought the activity was easy and I didn't really understand the purpose, because the marble activity was much more difficult and I got a lot more out of it. Thats just my opinion.

  23. I liked how it was easier to do than the marble activity. my team was the first to get all the mousetraps on the other side. that made me feel accomplished for those few short moments :)

This did require some pre planning, so it was basically just a way to help us practice our communation skills within our group.

  24. omg. i never in a million years thought that i would place my hand over a mouse trap!!! ahh! but it felt so good once i actually got done and didn't snap on my hand. it was great to suck it up and not be scared and work together with your group and accomplish the task.
