Channels and Climbing Connections

I would like you to see the connection between the activity we did today (Channels) to your climbing group and climbing in general.

  1. I thought my group did a great job working together to get the marble in the bucket. I realized that if one person messes up, then the entire group does. It was just like climbing.. since if one person does something wrong, we can put the climber in danger. So each person has to be accountable for his/her actions.

  2. I think the Channels activity showed how we have to be patient, and it revealed our group dynamic in general... problem solving, working together, etc... and i think we need to be able to do all of those things in order to climb successfully.

  3. I think that the channels activity showed us how the whole group has to work together to get the job accomplished, and it required a lot of concentration which is also necessary for climbing.

  4. It was a great way for us to really work together and become a more communicative team. We really needed teamwork to finish.

  5. I think the channels showed how much teamwork is involved in being successful and how one mistake could ruin the entire line, which is the same with climbing since everything, including the knots and harnesses, must be perfect to ensure everyone's safety.

  6. I was not at gym the day we did this activity, but I understand the connection between climbing. Everyone has to be completely aware and on task in order to get the marble all the way across without falling. Everyone also needs to be paying attention when someone is climbing, so that person doesn't fall.

  7. The channels activity related to our climbing groups because we ALL have to pay attention the entire times. in the activity if someone looked away the marble could drop and we'd have to start all over. during climbing if someone doesn't pay attention the climber could fall and not be caught.. which would turn out prettty bad.

  8. I thought it was a good idea. My climbing group did well and got the marble in. Even though we messed up we corrected each other and not like discourage and communicate very well. Also just shows how much it is important to pay attention so nothing will go wrong.

  9. i think our group especially has some really good ideas and we can think them up pretty quickly well at least for this activity but we like to give up after we've tried something for a little bit. we need to stay positive and know that we can do it if we give it enough time and energy =]

  10. In the activity channels you had to work together to get it done, and sometimes you got really frustrated with your team mates. But you had to get over your frustration in order to be a good team. Just like when you're climbing people may get frustration but you can't let that get in your way.

  11. i think the connection between the activities is we all need to be paying attention to what is going on while someone is climbing, or while the marble was rolling. I think we also need to communicate what is going on and help eachother out when something goes wrong.

  13. i agree with marlo in saying that this was like climbing in the fact taht we all had to pay attention. if one of us wasnt, the whole thing wouldnt work. we had to wrok together as a good and have patience with eachother

  14. During the channels activity everyone had to participate to get the task accomplished. Everyone had to input ideas and be patient with each other to complete the tasks. Just like the channels activity climbing also invloves these things. When climbing the group needs to listen to each other and be patient.

  15. Our group was very cooperative and it teaches you to work together to achieve a higher goal

  16. Like climbing, the activity teaches you to have patience, especially when something easy doesn't work out the first time.

  17. In the channeling activity all of the group members had to pay attention work together. If someone wasn't paying attention the marble would fall off and everyone would have to start all over again. The climbing groups are the same as this because if a belayer is not paying attention then a climber can get hurt if they fall. Everyone contributes to the success and failure of a group.

  18. We were all forced to work together in this activity and we learned as a group that we're all relatively patient with eachother. We had to cope with the mistaked that we made and the difficulty of the challenge, as in climbing.

  19. the activity was a good way to work as a group in a laid back setting. I thought my group did really well and i liked it better than the whole class activities because there are so many different opinions and personalities whereas in a small group everyone got along a lot better

  20. i thought my group did a really good job supporting eachother and we were able to make it fun. we didn't get upset if someone messed it up, but instead we just tried harder the next time. I agree with ami saying that it was a lot like climbing in the way that everyone has a job and if one person messes something up then the whole thing gets a little off track. everyone needs to stay focused and then if that is done then everything goes smoothly.

  21. My group did a good job when we all worked together and took our time. This applies to climbing because in order for it to be safe and fun, we all have to work together. If we don't, when something goes wrong, not only the climber could get hurt, but the belay and backup belay could get hurt too.

  22. I learned from the marble activity that each person in the group must do their job in order for us to succeed.
I also learned that if someone in the group does mess up, we can't blame them because it is a group effort. Positive reinforcement is very important!

  23. I learned that if one person isn't on the same page as everyone else, the whole team/system will fail. It was hard to guide the marbles down to the bucket, but with enough teamwork, it was eventually accomplished. I think this directly corresponds to our belay systems. We all most work as a team, including the climber, and if one person makes a mistake, it could hurt the rest of the group.

  24. this was a task def. to test our team communication! we all had to focus and work to gether to make the marble go down without faling. which fits in perfectly with climbing..we all need to pay attenetion and communicate with eachother to be safe and have fun!
